I am from Europe and will travel to the US soon. Where can I get a pre-paid calling card? I would like to use my own cell phone but also want to buy a calling card.
Watch the internation charges on your cell phone, You can pick up a rental US cell or buy a pre-paid cell phone. Calling cards only work when you are calling from a landline (and alot of people already have national LD). Most hotel charge for long (800) toll/free calls now. or to call the local access numbers. Payphones in the US are a thing of the past. there are some around but not many.
If you still want a pre/paid calling card most convenence stores. Walmart, drug stores have them. They have a per call setup fee then x cents per mins so.

That's not true, I use calling cards with my cell phone and dont get any international fees. The best place to pick up a calling card is at 7/11
edit: if you bring your phone with you from europe then you will be charged the international roaming charges, you are better off bringing a laptop and just using skype

A friend of mine told me that one can buy a pre-paid cellphone for 40 USD at Walmart, that's what I will do. You only have to activiate the possibility to do international calls.
You can buy a prepaid simcard for your cellphone at the airport of entry into the USA from a machine. You can also buy a prepaid simcard from any T-Mobile store. This would reduce your cellphone costs in the USA. As for calling cards, you can buy them at most American pharmacies/drug-stores.
You can buy cards and disposable phones almost anywhere. Most of the convenience stores sell them. Walmart, Kmart, Fred Meyers, and all the big discount stores sell them.
Electronics stores, like Radio Shack or Best Buy, sell them and that is where you have the best chance of getting a salesman who knows what they do.
Very likely, all the drug stores sell them. I wouldn't be surprised if the grocery stores sell them (at the service counter)
