We had a thread on Megabus but the new Budget Travel July/Aug issue has a feature on the others including Boltbus, Lux Bus,Vamoose, Tripper bus and RedCoach. I was thinking of RedCoach as a way from Orlando to Jax but the schedules don't work for me. Anyone tried these? What did you think?

Many of these low cost bus companies don't maintain their buses as well as they should and there have been quite a few accidents with not only injured people but fatalities as well.

Agree with Chava, be careful, you get what you pay for.

The Frommer's BT article featured reviews by editors who rode anonymously. To me, the CHARTER bus companies are the ones to watch out for.

I think bus travel is cheap enough that you don't have to use the ultra cheap poorly maintained and bad driver buses.

Most of the low-cost bus lines are affiliates of larger well-known companies that are world wide. Megabus is related to Stagecoach Lines, LTD out of Great Britian and CoachUSA. Red Coach is owned by Grupo Plaza, a major carrier in Latin America.

I have had good experiences with all the lines EXCEPT Greyhound in the USA.

Thanks for your response. Red Coach looks pretty luxurious, at least from its website.
