It happens more often than you would think. It just doesn't always make the news.

No not really, it doesn't. Off the air? Sure.

Because, according to the pilot, they would be so much more "doable," which is an essential quality in a flight attendant.

No doubt the responsibility of steering an aircraft full of humanity through the sky requires a certain amount of ego. That guy (who, by the way, is now back at work) sounds like a real %$*#.

However,to make up for him, there are pilots such as Anatoly Grishchenko or Chesley Sullenberger or June Drew.

Not in Europe. We flew almost every month within the Continent for 7 years, and rarely found a beautiful and happy flight attendant.

Singapore Air and Cathay Pacific have IMO the most 'presentable' airline crew. The girls wear the same shades of nail polish and lipstick, their hair is always tidy and they are all fairly young. Some of the older versions on BA, AA and Swiss ( the airlines I use when I can't do the journey with Cathay or Singapore ) really need to be given a mirror. Its not about beauty but presentation.
Dark underwear under wrinkly white shirts, clothes that don't quite fit anymore, scuffed shoes, messy hair. I worked in customer facing jobs and would never dream of meeting a customer looking how some of the air crew look.

I think the asian airlines have lower age limits too which I guess stops them becoming the sour faces I see on AA and BA...... just an observation !!
I have met many older crew who enjoy their jobs and are very pleasant but unfortunately they are in the minority.

I've only flown AA in the US so can't comment on the others.

I agree that Singapore Airlines have very presentable attendants. Very cute uniforms too, they're like kimonos but more form fitting & modern.

Maybe the asian airlines look a little different because they are still using this kind of criteria for hiring as opposed to the western standards not based on appearance:
18-25 years old
Female at least 5’3” in height
With weight proportional to height
With clear complexion, good eyesight and good set of teeth
Bring along your updated resume with your one recent 2x2 picture.
Screening is on a first come first serve basis.
FEMALE: Please come in business attire (preferably sleeveless blouse with blazer and in skirt-below the knee with

It's supposed to be a joke though. It's also true too... mostly... for USA flight attendants.
