Does anyone have any idea why the Swiss Flag is used at Airports instead of the Red Cross to indicate a medical post ?? I have wore my Swiss T shirt and been asked if I am a nurse..... a bit confusing....

Are you sure, it was the *Swiss* flag, indicating a medical emergency location at airports ???
Never had to use one, so I do not remember ...
I am sure nobody in Switzerland will ask you if you are a nurse, when you wear that T-Shirt.

Swiss cheese story ...
We live in Switzerland, and friend of wife comes to visit.
Daughter of friend goes shopping with us and enters a Cheese Specialties Store.
She ask countergirls:
You speak English.
Countergirl:
Yess I do a leetle beet.
Daughter:
I like some Swiss Cheese.
Countergirl:
Points to every piece of cheese behind the glass and says
"Sweesh Cheeeese, Sweesh Cheeeese, Sweesh Cheeeese, Sweesh Cheeeese,"
I just walked out the door looking for a Restroom ...
We were laughing so hard, out tears ran down our knees ....

Because red indicates an emergency station. It catches the eye easily. The cross indicates a medical station. Contrasting colors are required, so they use white.

We have tall red stripes going up our hangar walls. They tell us where the fire extinguishers are. The green stripes are where the oxygen bottles are.

yes I get this, but in SFO airport on the maps they use a white cross on a red background (swiss flag) instead of the universal red cross on a white background.... I asked via email why and at first they said they weren't aware they had, and then came back to me and said they had checked and they had in-fact used the swiss flag colouring and said it was because the paper was white so they reversed the colours of the symbol.....

We just thought there were a lot of Swiss Air lounges in the airport !! lol

Also in some countries where they are not allowed to use the red cross symbol because the medical station isn't the red cross they use a green cross on a white background.

I looked on the rear shelf underneath the cover, and you are right !!!
Never opened the darn thing up. Duuuuhhhh .....

Still with Switzerland having all this odd stuff going on at rather ridiculously high cost,
it is still a pretty country to visit.
I organised a tour for some family members starting in Barcelona
and then going to France, Switzerland, Italy and back to Spain, all in 14 days.
When they got back they asked me why for heaven's sake did I not stay there ???
The father said that when they drove from Lausanne to Milano,
all they heard the kids say was *wow ... wow ... wow ...*
I agree, the Ticino area is just gorgeous !!!
