I was in Carmel, Indiana a lot this past week... it's an upscale suburb of Indianapolis.

Atlantic City. Had a great time even though I am not much of a gambler. Plenty to see and do. Their motto: "Always on." is true. My mother goes there at least once a month.

I was in Southeast Asia. The cities I visited were Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which I've visited before, Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon, Nha Trang, Danang, Hoi An, Hue, Hanoi, Halong Bay City, Lao Cai, Sapa, all in Vietnam of course, then Bangkok, Phuket and Singapore for a stop-over. Hoi An is my favourite city in Vietnam because it has a village-feel and isn't so hectic as are Hanoi and Saigon. Bangkok I found surprisingly quiet, maybe because of the recent floods. I found Phuket more busy/bustling but extremely touristy. Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi are some of the most hectic, stressful cities I've visited. Vietnam really floods your system, gets into your nerves (and often on your nerves) as soon as you step off the plane and get out of the airport.

I went to Dallas late Oct/early Nov.. had a pretty good time. It was about what I expected, although there wasn't quite as much to do downtown as I would have liked. Most of the things to do were outside of the downtown area, which is not a problem really, I just like when a city has things to do downtown also. I liked how laid back it felt and how friendly all the the people seemed, couldn't complain about the weather either.

Recently I returned from a stay in China. I was based in Jinan (the capital of Shandong Province) which doesn't have many Western visitors but it is well-known for its 72 springs as well as a lovely lake. I also visited Qingdao (the main port city of Shandong Province) which is a lovely beach town on the Yellow Sea with a beautiful old German section. (Qingdao was the site of the 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition.) I also visited Beijing including the Forbidden City and the Great Wall (just outside of Beijing). In Beijing I also got to see the famous Bird's Nest stadium used in the 2008 Olympics. I also got to visit Shanghai including the French Concession, the old Jewish Ghetto, the Bund, the famous Palace Hotel and a view from the Royal Meridian Hotel 66th floor bar. Lastly, I visited the town of Qufu (also in Shandong Province), the hometown of the famous Chinese scholar Confucius. In Qufu, I visited the Temple of Confucius, the Kong Family Mansion and the cemetery of Confucius.

Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was traveling with a friend who wanted to spend the day looking at the art-deco architecture, which is actually quite impressive. I didn't think I'd enjoy it, but I did. Almost no traffic in that part of the city, and you can easily park on the street and just walk around leisurely and safely. That was in October, I go to a "city" less than once a year. In the past five years, I've been to Houston twice and Corpus Christi once, all for baseball games. Every once in a while I also bypass a city on the Interstate, but I never stop.
