Hi-
Anyone traveled to China lately? My husband has to go next month on business. He has never been and is trying to find out what vaccinations he needs and who provides them. Our family doctor hasn't gotten back with us yet, and the CDC site is somewhat vague when it comes to what is required.
Would love to hear from some experienced travelers.
Many thanks in advance!

Doesn't look like there are any required vaccinations but recommended ones include:
•Tetanus-diphtheria (DPT)
•Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR)
•Varicella (chickenpox)
•Hepatitis A
•Typhoid is recommended especially if you’ll be in rural areas where you may eat or drink outside large restaurants and hotels where you may come in contact with contaminated water or food.
•Yellow Fever is required by Chinese law only if you are arriving from an infected area such as Africa.
•Japanese Encephalitis is recommended for longer-term travelers, especially children, who are susceptible to mosquito bites and will be outdoors during mosquito season (which can last from May to November in southern China).
•Hepatitis B is also recommended for longer term visitors/residents as it is very common throughout China.
•Rabies is recommended for any traveler who may come in contact with or handle animals, especially dogs. Rabies is common in China while the vaccination is not.

There are no required vaccinations for China. Of the ones recommended it depends on what part of China one is going to in order to decide what to be vaccinated for. (The recommendations are different for Northern China versus Southern China or if one is going to rural areas or just staying in urban areas.)

Good post Chava, China is a big country and someone visiting Shanghai staying in Western hotels on business might have very different immunization needs than someone volunteering in a rural town somewhere in Shanxi.

The only one that would be recommended anywhere is probably the hep A/B combo, because like tetanus it is just useful to have regardless of whether you travel.

I agree Tetanus, Hepatitis A & Hepatitis B shots are good no matter where one is going in China and are also good to have in general.

Polio booster, depending on your age. Your polio shots as a child are NOT good for life, and an adult booster is needed. But it is assumed that in the USA you will never be exposed to it, so nobody ever says anything about it. In China, you might be exposed. Most of China is not on the list of endemic countries, but with so much air travel, the list is growing rapidly.

Be sure to take enough toothpaste. Chinese toothpaste has no fluoride in it, and going without daily fluoride treatment even for a week or so can leave your teeth with inadequate protection.

Dental floss is not readily available either. If he plans to do any traveling outside his office, hand sanitation products are really good to have too.

Have a TB test done when you get back. That much I know for sure. Have a flu shot. I would review his shot record, and update anything he needs, if he never had Chicken Pox, he should have that vaccine, and update the German Measles.
