Daughter is on her car trip move out to Portland, but needs to find a hotel/motel that can accommodate her as well as her 2 cats for probably 4 to 5 days, until she finds a more permanent place to stay. She has a rather tight budget and after experiencing a Motel 6 last night in New Mexico, she would prefer something else ... She certainly doesn't need anything fancy, but clean and in a safe area, (you know we mother's always worry), would be nice. Any suggestions would be great.

No two motels are the same. It makes no sense to resolve to never stay in a Motel 6 again, because of some (unspecified) horrifying experience in one of them. Every Motel 6 accepts her pets, no questions asked, and doesn't even charge a pet deposit, which is a pretty huge concession.

Motel 6 has a pretty good record of maintaining cleanliness and security and comfort standards satisfactory to a majority of wall-balanced adults, which should make it endurable for a couple of days, even if you don't want to live there forever.

Depending on which Portland you are talking about, there is probably another Motel 6 on the other side of town.

Pet Friendly Hotels - Official Pet Hotels

Some places charge extra, some do not. I think that Super 8 was my favorite "pet friendly" hotel.
