I didn't even pay attention to the date. When I see something on the first page I expect it to be within 10 months of the day I'm reading it (like I won't bump any threads more then 10 months from the last post), not 4 years earlier.

We will be driving from Michigan to Sacramento the end of October and returning sometime the middle of November
We will probably drive the southern route coming home, but will the direct route be too dangerous for the end of October?

Since your destinations are North... I would NOT go south. Just watch the 6-10 day forecast and choose rte accordingly. for FAST I-80. I spent 7 yrs daily driving some on the WORST of I-80 (WY / NE) I lived through it. WARNING they close the roads these days in bad weather, so carry some CASH for room.

I have run I-90 several times in Winter with MUCH better conditons than I-80, Nice thing... weather is not PROLONGED (often only 8-12 hr delay at MOST), forecasts CAN BE very accurate, and routes variable. (I-70, 80 90, 40)
