what about Orleans, where Joan of Arc was born?
Tours may be too far and also love Saumur.
Le Mans might be another option too.

Saumur is my favorite town of this trip.
I ended up camping, traveling to Besancon, l'Abbaye Fontenay, Flavigny (from the movie, Chocolat), Vezelay, Bourges, Tours and Le Loire et le Cher (many chateaux).
Today I journeyed a song that I learned in grammar school: Orleans, Beaugency, Notre Dame de Clery, Vendome, Vendome. It was fun.
I looked around Chartres today and will see the Cathedral in the morning. Versailles perhaps tomorrow afternoon, but I don't want to hit Paris traffic.
Reims on Saturday morning, then wend my way home after grocery shopping in Metz at the Cora. Paris brest and comte, and the cat food preferred in my household.

Sounds like a great trip. Don't forget to find the Smiling Angel at Reims cathedral.
We too loved Saumur.
Just 8 weeks from tomorrow we'll be heading back to France again, can't wait.

I've always loved France. The more I travel here the more I love it. There's a feel of genteel decay that I so relate to. It's a level of comfort and non-pretentiousness that grabs me.

I may forego Versailles, go straight to Reims and drive half way home on Saturday.

BWP, Lidl just started carrying a new potato chip - mustard flavor. Do.not.miss.
Sounds terrible, but quite tasty.

It was Chartres and Reims today. Didn't hit Versailles and will take tain if I'm just going to to Paris and environs.

I did get photos of the smiling angel.

Tomorrow, food shopping as I drive home.

Thanks for the headsup. I like just about anything with mustard.
Glad you saw the smiling angel.
Safe travels.
