I've stayed at the Del in the older rooms twice and loved it. Different strokes..

Thanks to everyone for the info and comments on this lovely looking and historic place.

A change of plans means we won't be going there this year but it's still a place that I'd like to visit.

I certainly enjoyed San Diego last time I was there.

We stayed there last March....nice enough, but it's old. I did enjoy the ceiling fan (hot flashes and all that!), which most hotels don't have.
It's expensive.
The pool is lovely. The bed was SOOOOO NICE! Very comfy! The staff will do almost anything to please you.

It happened to be pretty chilly when we were there....I thought S. California was supposed to be warm!!!!

I always check tripadvisor before booking a hotel. Over 100's of hotels, I have yet to discover something that wasn't already mentioned on there:

I liked watching the planes fly over. Water there was not as nice as further north, maybe because closer to mexico border?

We stayed at a resort in Carlsbad and took a day trip to San Diego. While there we had lunch at the Coranado Hotel. The food was great an the atmosphere was really nice. They have a small mall in the basement as well...my wife bought me a pair of shades that I wear every day

I liked the Hotel Del, but it wasn't anything that rocked my world. It was a very nice property. My room was overlooking the courtyard in the middle of the property. The bed was super comfy, the fan supplied a nice breeze, and the room was very welcoming.

I enjoyed going out on the sea side and watching the A10 Warthogs taking off and arriving. They make that grunting noise as they do and that was the only noise "issue" (if you want to call it that).

Overall, a positive stay. Do it again? Well I could, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do it.
