Are 'women only' hotel rooms set to be the latest hotel trend? The managers of the Dukes Hotel in London seem to think so, with the introduction of special 'Duchess Rooms' to cater for single female travellers and groups of holidaying women. And men are most definitely banned.

Publicity stunt, perhaps.

I guarantee you if it was the other way around (men only hotels) that place would be shut down or sued big time. Just like women only gyms. Or women only sports teams (nobody would prevent a girl from playing on a guys team - happens all the time.)

Sounds like a pleasant place for me to stay....away from all that intrusive leering and staring....

I think they should change the name to Duchess Hotel.

I do not think this is a new concept at all.
Plenty of men only places already, in England, so why not women only ???

Maybe it should be renamed the Duke-less Hotel.

I can see some charm to that (name, place, activity)

Women can be pretty tough on each other, might be good spot (sport)to "Duke it out". This has a real british flair

Anyone remember the TV series The Duchess of Duke Street? I bet there's a connection.

I am female and I think it is very sexist. If it was the other way around there would be outrage. And quite rightly so.

We still have men's clubs in the UK and I find the concept quite repellent.

2012 and we still try to segragate the sexes... Why ? Are women seriously so fragile they cannot bear to share a Hotel with members of the opposite sex ? So insecure ?

Actually if you're familiar with backpacker culture I can understand wanting to stay in a female-only dorm. The way some backpackers behave...I've witnessed sex in the dorms several times (one time I was awaken by the shaking of my dorm bed. A couple - actually two people on my tour who'd just known each other for like a few days) were going at it! Some of the guys are pretty relaxed, sleeping nude/walking around nude. I'm sure some would tone it down in the presence of ladies, but decorum, manners, hygiene or any of those things don't really go with the budget travelling experience.
