My longest to date has been three weeks. As long as I am working, I don't expect I'll be taking any vacations longer than that.

6 months abroad on the "hippie trail" back in '71/72. I retired recently & just spent 3 weeks in Ireland, visiting family, and then a week in Lisbon. I was happy to get back home after 4 weeks since travelling has a different perspective at this point. I'm more interested in neighborhoods where natives live & the local places they eat/drink rather than waiting in lines with other tourists. If there is a significant expat community I like to stay there as well for a time.

I spent 2 1/2 weeks in South America (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay) during a summer in college. I'll be going to Asia this summer (China, Thailand, and Vietnam) for a month and a half.

One of the perks of being a teacher is getting long summer breaks while the paychecks still come every 2 weeks!

6 years. I was 19, just about to turn 20, went on vacation, got offered a job and didn't return back home other than an occasional visit for holidays until I was 26. I didn't have much stuff at home at the time so I asked my parents to either put it in storage and I'd send them the money to pay the bill or just go ahead and sell it, whichever was easiest for them. They sold a few things, but kept most of it so when I returned home, I got to sort through it and see if anything was worth keeping still.
