I have just booked a couple of multi leg trips to / in Europe. I go to Manchester every other month or so from the US but this time also needed to visit Switzerland and then catch my return from Heathrow.

I tried a few websites but I was hang issues with the price on a one way trip... however the British Airways site was still able to give me London to Manchester for 53 pounds. Most other airlines insist that you book a return for the low fares but apparently not with BA. Just thought I would share this in case anyone else is planning a 'complicated' trip.

I have been planning out my trip through Europe and I'm a very light traveler so I've been looking in to Ryan Air, and they don't push round trip at all. For them you pretty much buy on a 1 way basis.

From what I've read about them, they're quite similar to Spirit Airlines, in the sense that if you expect anything extra, you'll end up paying for anything extra that the more established companies offer flat out.

Ryan air are not too bad.... they just don't go to Switzerland also the flights from Gatwick used to be quite pricy and the other airports Luton and Stanstead were a PIA to get to (for me when I lived in London). If they fly where you need to be and you travel light I would definitely use them.

I have used Ryanair once and they were okay. Between the UK and Switzerland (Geneva), I have always tended to use BA or Easyjet. Never had problems with either.

On our last trip to Europe (Geneva and Glasgow), we decided to use Amsterdam as a 'hub'. We used air miles Phoenix to Amsterdam round trip and then bought two round trip tickets Amsterdam-Geneva and Amsterdam-Glasgow. While the prices were good we were unimpressed with KLM especially when they cancelled one of our flights. Their customer service (when trying to rebook) left a lot to be desired and I found their attitude to be very arrogant. Also did not like Schipol very much.
