So Christmas is a long four day weekend for many people this year with many workplaces closed on Friday and Monday. So lots of people are traveling great distance to stay at relatives homes in far away unfamiliar cities.

OK, now that you have arrived and are staying at the relatives house in this far away city, what do you do for the whole time? Here are the two options:

#1 It is Christmas and time to visit with the relatives, there is little reason to leave the house when there is so much to do inside. There is cooking, baking, socializing, watch TV, reading and games with the relatives. Why leave the house?

#2 Lets turn this trip to see the relatives into a mini vacation. I don't know Aunt Bonnie's town very well, so lets see what it has to offer! I want to check out the big mall at the edge of town, go to some movies, visit some museums, go to a concert or play, or just drive around XXXTown and explore. We will have plenty of time to visit inside the house on Christmas Day!

So, which is it for you, IF you are traveling out of town to see the relatives at Christmas?

It depends on the relatives (do I really want to be inside with all of them for several days), the town (is there something interesting to see) and when I'm likely to make it back to the town. I have no problem turning a visit with relatives into a sight-seeing trip.
