Thumbs up I Love The Train!

I love train travel. In the mid 90s I traveled from southern California to Washington DC by train going through the Rockies and having a several hour layover in Chicago with time to do some downtown exploring. It was fantastic! Obviously, watching the USA go by through the scenic observation car was awesome. Most memorable was the Rockies - going through areas not accessible by car - with a herd of deer running alongside the train, eagles perched in the snow covered trees, etc. Also, going thru West Virginia was wonderful - seeing lots of old Civil War historic sites and natural beauty. Of course, just seeing everyday America was cool, too. I especially remember going through the midwestern small towns that were coming awake at dawn just as the sun rose. Another great part of train travel is meeting so many cool people! I met people from Australia, South America, Europe, Native Americans on their way to a pow-wow, a midwestern farm family on vacation, etc., etc. I didn't have a sleeper car but managed pretty well. I guess it isn't for everyone but I LOVED it! We are going from north Florida to southern California by train next week and I CAN'T WAIT!!

Definitely travel by car is preferable. I agree about the terrible air travel, anymore is torture. Used to be fairly pleasant but no more. Recently took a driving trip from Texas to Oregon, up through the mountain states. Very relaxing and beautiful drive, was worth the extra time.

I prefer to travel by car. Taking a plane stresses me out. I hate being delayed for 3 hours for a 2 hour flight. To me driving is relaxing and fun except during rush hour traffic. I love taking road trips to the Oregon coast or through the Cascades. You miss all that beauty sitting on a plane.

I love road trips, so I voted by car. I used to enjoy flying but it's just become too painful. I may have to try the train thing, cuz that sounds really cool!
