I was an avid reader as a child and I vowed I'd travel one day to the places that I read about. I got my wish.

We were poor for most of my childhood so travel to us meant a day trip via car, and those were few and far between. Accordingly, I savored every moment of the car ride and my eyes were glued to everything we passed on the road. That turned into a near-fetish for maps which sparked my wanderlust.

Although enjoying a comfortable lifestyle as a kid being an only child in a middle-class family, I developed the same passion for atlases and geography. My first (luxurious !) atlas was indeed offered to me by an aunt I visited in NYC at Xmas 1969, I was 14 yo, it was the famous ("National Geographic Atlas of the World"), I kept it a long time, and then much later I bought a new one, the 2007 edition, and I'd like to buy the next one, for the 2007 Atlas is already obsolete, do you know by chance when will the National Geographic will publish a new edition of hiscomprehensive World Atlas ?

What sparked my interest in travel?

Curiosity.

I just was curious about what was over the next hill, then the hill after that one, then the hill after that one and....

Growing up in a multicultural city (NYC), I was always fascinated with learning about different cultures and experiencing different cuisines. Also, I've always been interested in learning about my family history, which has roots the USA, Caribbean, Europe, and Africa. Through this interest, I've made it a priority to travel. Blessed to have been to Bermuda, China, India, France, Turkey, Australia, South Korea, Japan, UK, Norway, and Canada among international destinations; and to have traveled throughout the United States (including Guam).

My parents took us on driving vacations all over the US every year. And then we didn't have a TV so I read lots and lots of books.
