Where would you rather vacation if you had to pick between these places? I , personally, would pick Manaus because it is tropical.

Manaus, because I've always wanted to go to the Amazon. Miami would be interesting, but I've been to countless tropical beaches and places with nightlife. The arto-deco architecture would be a draw though.

Oh no, you said the magic word.

The only reason this guy posted this is to make someone say Miami is tropical. Get ready to be falsely corrected.

Well I've been to Miami plenty of times. It's interesting but Manaus would be my preference because it's a completely different culture (from where I live) and is an isolated city in the middle of the Amazon. Plus I'd end up going though Miami anyway to get there.

Good point about the transfer. I do want to visit Manaus one day, a fascinating city.

Default more interested by Manaus, but...

...there are 2 problems I'd have to solve : how to cope with the intense heat and humidity of equatorial Amazonia, and how to deal with the security issue (Manus has a poor security record). But if I could find a solution to these problems, I would be eager to discover what a big city in the jungle is like!

Well, I have vacationed in both. I would choose Manaus again, as I loved our boat rides on the Amazon/Rio Negro. I would want to stay a night or two in that hotel (Ariza? Araiu? or something like that), we visited, but didn't stay. There were other adventures that we didn't do, as our daughter was only one at the time.

Miami was fun when I went, but Manaus was so much different, I would choose that again.

I'd say neither and go to Rio de Janeiro. I don't have too much of an interest in Manaus, plus Manaus is a huge city, its not like you'd be right in the Amazon. You'd still have to do a few hours of traveling to get into the forest from there.

There's also the whole Northeast part of Brasil that is beautiful too.

Also, Miami is tropical .. so picking Manaus because it's tropical doesn't really make sense.

I think both could be great, Miami would probably feel just as foreign as Manaus to be completely honest haha. I think it really depends on your budget and other things. You have to really just know what kind of vacation you want and that'd help you out in your decision.
