I have about 23,000 miles with American (most racked up via US Airways when the two were separate entities).

Combine that with playing the game of credit cards and hotels, etc. The problem is so many people are playing the game that miles are being devalued every year. Those that are saving miles "for a rainy day" are taking a huge risk.
Yeah I don't do any work travel. I've been all over the world, but it's all personal travel. So I just take things like the 50,000 mile sign-up bonuses you can get for having a minimum spend on the credit card. I do put all of my spending on credit cards and then pay it off, so I'm getting all the miles I can get.

I earned 7.2 million miles on AA by traveling almost every week on business for 15 years.
