here's the deal. flying from minneapolis to philly. costs about $300. but from minneapolis to new york or boston with a connecting flight in philadelphia is like $120. Now i can easily fly to new york and hop on a train to philly. but id rather just get off in philadelphia. since im buying a one way ticket and not checking in any bags. will anything happen if i get off in philadelphia?

If you are a member of the carriers frequent flyer program and they catch you doing this on purpose, they can forfeit your membership. Otherwise, there's really nothing they can do.

The airline will cancel the rest of your itin, at least, so you can't do this on the first part of a round-trip. But with a one-way and no checked bags, they can't really stop you because, well, who cares if they cancel the other leg of the itin that you don't need? Yes if you're trying to collect miles and such they may flag you so don't do that on a carrier where you have a large mileage balance to protect.

Pretty sure I did this once but it's been years.

you contact the airline and they will usually require documentaion. With documentation they won;t hold it against you.

Wasn;t there last year a fedreal court case where someone was blacklisted by the airline for violating the terms of carriage and that person sued. Didn;t the court rule that the airline had the right to bar any pasenegr from their airline if they keep violating the airlines rules. So many airliens will gladly take you money even if you did this over and over agin, but some are playing hard ball and blacklisting you. Its worst if you use one of the travel consolidators who will sell the seat to you and only find out much later your on the airlines banned list.
