melanie / germany!
I don't want to drive around Melanie. I just want to take him to Europe for a week or even less as I've promised, before the economy here went bad.

Any suggestions?
'Come to Germany, lots of history, old buidings, castles :-)
Nice warm in summer. Cheap hotels ( for example) are IBIS Hotels, B&B Hotels, ... I like the Rine River Boat tours ( daily tours) where you can see much old castles (starting in Rüdesheim/ Rhein) which is also a quiet touristy city... Or Neuschwanstein in Bavaria (4 hours by car from Frankfurt) or Dome of Cologne ( 2 hours by car from Frankfurt)
Frankfurt is in the "middle" of Germany, makes it a good point for daily trips...
Amsterdam sounds perfect then. What's your budget, or what would you like it be? :-)
I was in Amsterdam last December. I had been there many times before but was disappointed this time. Dirty, seedy and overpriced are the three words I would use to describe it.
Or depending on your timeline you could always catch a cruise deal.
Royal Caribbean has deals out of Rome for the eastern Med and Turkey and Greece for under $500 pp before flight. Seven day cruise. Always an alternative.
I would be very surprised if you could book flights and hotels at the prices that the tour companies are able to.
