BTW, a passport is universal ID and you may want to carry it for identification purposes. We found some places that would not take a drivers license for ID but did with the passport.

Since you are a California resident, you can get Enhanced Drivers License which is a Drivers Licence and Passport in one. This way you don't need to carry your book passport.

Just remember it doesn't work if you fly. Only land or sea crossings. If you set foot on an airplane, you need your little blue book.

Thanks for the info ... I don't drive and don't do a lot of land border crossings so the enhanced DL isn't to my advantage.
