- Southwest is cheaper and doesn't charge for checked bags BUT you can't pick your own seat and it's a 4-hour flight
- United is $17 more, charges $25 per bag BUT I get to pick my own seat and it will add to my mileage account

I've never flown to Atlanta so no clue about how good these airlines handle that particular airport. Any thoughts?

You did not say where you were flying out of but Atlanta is Delta's main hub so getting there should not be a problem, but if Southwest flies there that is who I take.... Southwest is either a love or hate airline and I am on the love it side. Since Atlanta is your final destination you should not have a problem with any airline, Atlanta airport is only a pain if you have to catch a connecting flight from there.

If you check in 23:59 minutes before the flight you will be in the A boarding group. You will have you pick of seats. Or you can pay ($10 i think) to be towards the front of the line, on SW.

SW has it own FF plan.

Yeah, not interested in taking Delta. Their flights are just as pricey as United and the timings aren't that great. I guess Southwest would make sense cause if I do any shopping at least I can check a bag without worrying about the effing charges . I just hate the thought of being stuck in the middle of a row or behind the wing. If they assign you a horrible seat, can you ask for a change at check-in?

Yep or you can just buy a business select ticket instead of a web only ticket and you will pretty much be the first one on the plane 99% of the time

Southwest does not assign you seats, you can sit wherever you want.... The trick is to be one of the first ones on the plane, I'm tall so I always try and get the bulkhead row for the extra legroom. Really never have a problem not getting it

SW does not assign seats, its Open seating. You pick any open seat based on your boarding sequence number / group
when you get on the plane.

Group A 1-60 You go on 1st and if the fight is starting in DIA you will have a great choice of window & aisle.
Group B 1-60 In the 1-30 range there are still good seats. 31-60 Not as many but still some window/aisle left
Group C 1-60 You will be in a middle seat.

For a four hour flight the extra money on United might be worth it. Depends how much you fly and what you want to to use those miles for.
