There are often people selling an amazing trip package for only $79 and throwing in all kinds of other freebees to get you to sign up RIGHT NOW. I always almost purchase them before my husband just says no on principle of being so pressured. So I thought I'd see if anyones actually purchased and went on the trips, listened to a 90min tour sales pitch for time shares or more vacations, NOT bought anything more, and would still recommend it.

I know that's a specific and tall order, but anyone here have info on it?

I would never, EVER do anything like that over the phone. Period. But if you saw a place you liked, and knew that the sales pitch would occur once, on a certain day, and would not overlap into the rest of your stay, it might be worth it to you.

We never actually stayed at the place, but ten years ago we *did* put up with 90 minute high pressure sales pitch for a time share resort in order to do something else.

We were in Hawaii, on the island of Kauai. I knew about the Na Pali coast, and saw an advertisement for the helicopter rides. It was very expensive. But it would be much more affordable (two for one!) if we did the sales pitch. There were actually a couple resorts to choose from. My husband picked a time share resort that actually looked attractive, and we made the appointment.

The time share presentation was very orchestrated, and an interesting study in marketing.
First you were greeted by someone with his own spiel, then you walked the grounds on an escorted tour, then, in a roomful of small tables, you had a sit-down chat with yet another salesperson. They asked plenty of questions, but so did we--it was interesting and helped the time pass. The resort was nice. We had been curious about time shares, and came away with the idea that it was not something we would ever want to do, but felt we learned something during the appointment. We did see people signing papers.
The last half hour was grim, but I knew we'd be leaving with a voucher for the helicopter ride.

The helicopter ride was literally awesome.

I doubt that I would do it again, but back then, it was worth the money saved.

They say there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Thing is, there IS, but it still costs too much.

That's my feeling about the vacation discounts with the time share sales pitch.

By the way, some resort-type hotels with very good rates do something similar. Check out the customer comments to find out and avoid.

You really have to know yourself and how susceptible you can be in caving into high pressure sales tactics. I learned my lesson the hard way when I purchased way more personal training sessions than I needed through my fitness spa. Because of this experience, I know to avoid time share presentations because owning a time share would not be in my best interest due to the fact that don't want to be tied down to a specific travel location and I cannot afford one, period! When I ever decide that I want to do a timeshare, then I'll take advantage of the "freebies" after researching a property because I am already planning to purchase. Otherwise, I stay away ... No such thing as a "free" lunch.

This was not over the phone. They have booths at the local festivals. They offered my family a 4 night stay at a resort (an hour away) for $79 if we take the tour and listen to the 90 min pitch. Then they added in a separate 2 night stay which we would pick from a list of locations (we would have to get ourselves there and back). Then they added 2 tickets to a local water park. Then they added a $50 visa card to spend on the first trip. All for one time $79. I am still not sure if it would be worth it. I don't do well with high pressure sales but my husband seems to be able to say no pretty well.

I would not do this unless your husband was with you during the sales pitch ... Even then, be careful if you are susceptible to high pressured sales tactics unless you are interested in the timeshare.

Not sure if it's a timeshare they are selling when we get there. They weren't clear on that. They said they just take you on a tour so you will be more likely to come back. My husband was with me and he thought about it but basically decided "that's not what we came here for, lets go take the kids on some rides" Which I totally understood. Now I am thinking I could go back before the festival ends and buy it if I was more informed... I am sure it will not be my last chance though

We were using my son's timeshare and asked if we wanted to attend a presentation ( $50 debit card for me and $75 taken off my son's yearly maimtainence fee )

We went.
I did not buy and said so as soon as the individual salesperson started " applying the heat "

Be carefull !

The first salesman talks to the group and is very friendly and persuasive. They then bring in an individual for every couple to close the deal.

The first salesman stated he laughed as he saw couples looking at each other and shaking their head " no" to reassure each other ( as they were walking from the parking lot to the building )

He stated that by the time we all leave today............50% will have signed a binding contract and their ( salesmen's ) goals will be met.

I've done it and it's not horrible. You can do it! If you know any good ones let me know.

Just resolve NOT to buy anything - and you'll be OK!

Funny story. My husband and I were at a resort where they were doing some sort of time-share thing that we were not a part of. We were at the pool bar and a guy came by saying if we went to the timeshare meeting thing we would get vouchers for pricey meals at their restaurant, some sort of off property tour and some other stuff I can't remember. We were just hanging out that day so we thought what the heck so we went. We had the first group speech and then we met one on one with a salesman. He asked us what brought us in that day and we told him about sitting at the pool bar and being approached by the guy. He asked if we had been drinking and we told him we had. He then said he couldn't continue since we had had alcohol. So, long story short. If you want to go, but you don't want the hard sales pitch just tell them you're drunk.
