I'll be going to a hotel in Atlanta next month and the hotel has a parking garage connected that has valet service. I think the cost per day is 20 dollars.

When should you tip the valet? After you've picked up your car?

How much is a good tip?

I tip both on drop off and pick up, $2-5 each depending on factors such as the weather and if they offer any additional assistance.

Don't forget the taxi driver in that (or the room maids).

If I'm going in and out more than say three-four times during that period I'd normally tip $2 each time they go get my car. If they park it once and I don't use it again until I leave I tip $5.

And I tip when I'm handed the car keys.

How much should tip the taxi driver? I know it varies on mileage and time.

I've heard of tipping the maid. I never have but a lot of that has to do with the fact that I do not ask for room service when I'm staying in the hotel. I just got back from a trip this weekend and stayed 3 nights. I left the note on the door for no disturbance.

I also clean up the room the best I can so that they aren't having to clean up hairs all around the sink and picking up trash in the room etc.

What's your point? The OP asked about valet. I don't need to be reminded to tip or be told how much.

By the way, I didn't leave a tip for the maid at my last hotel because the room wasn't as clean as it should have been (hair on the bathroom floor and candy wrappers under the bed), a burned out lightbulb in the bathroom wasn't replaced during my stay, and my bath towels weren't replenished. This was a four star hotel, not a Motel 6.

The housekeeper and room service are two different things. I typically leave $2-5 per day for the housekeeper as long as the room is clean. Room service gets 15% if there is no gratuity added to the bill.

I tip taxi drivers 15-20% plus $1 per bag they handle ($2-3 per bag if they are particularly large or heavy)

The last time I let a valet park my vehicle he locked the car and then lost the keys. The hotel had to get and pay for a locksmith to open the car. I lost 6 hours on my rental and a planned trip. I park my own now.

Sometimes that's not an option. I have one city I visit regularly for business. All parking lots downtown close by midnight and you can't leave your cars overnight. Hotels only offer valet service. No street parking available within 10 blocks of the hotels.
