I work for a major airline and I agree with some of the posters here. Many of the delays are NOT the fault of the airline (weather being the most frequent). Should the airline accomodate you if the weather is bad? NO. Would the city bus accomodate you if the weather was bad?

Everyone wants cheap airfare. They all want first class service for the lowest fares. Sorry, that wont happen.

I have not had a raise in TEN YEARS. And 10 years ago, I took a 20% pay cut. So, sorry, it is not easy for me to have sympathy. Love my job but I dont like the way it is either. Still, I TRY to give really good service. Please be nice to your crews.

Well, we all want cheap airfares, but are they cheap?? Not really. Trips overseas have almost doubled for less cabin space, lousy food and surcharges on everything else. I know... the gas prices, but why are our flights so expensive while in other countries travel is still reasonable? Maybe we just are very greedy or can't calculate the fare prices so everyone could be happy?...

The majority of cancellations are due to items outside the airlines control. Many times what looks like a airline cancellation is actually due to something outside their control somewhere else that had a domino effect.

You also have to rememebr that the level of service an airline provides is directly the result of what passenegers say they want for service. It's not the airline's fault that passengers overwhelmingly prefer that fares be kept low or lowered even at the expense of service. I bet if an airline openly hired rude and annoying staff, they would still have customer flocking to them with that horrible service if they lower the price below the others.
Actually even better service than having a first class ticket is having a high frequent flyer status. I am top tier with my carrier of choice, and yes, they bend over backwards--I got someone IDB'ed the other night because I wanted a seat on a full 6:00 pm flight after three days of non-stop maintenance related delays and finding out my 8:15 had been delayed to 10:45 when I landed. I don't do that on a regular basis, but I wasn't going to bed at 2:00 am for a third night in a row with an 8:00 am meeting. I saw the delay email as soon as I landed, so I immediately called my preferred status customer service line and got them to rebook me as I headed to the gate the earlier flight was leaving from.

But they aren't going to hand over a hotel room when it's not part of the contract of carriage to do so.

And I agree, it's the traveling public who wanted Greyhound prices that have caused the cuts in service.

I disagree. Sure there are low cost carriers overseas, but talk about surcharges--RyanAir anyone?

Shorter distances. The entire size of Europe is comparable to the continental U.S.A.
