I'm going to be traveling around Christmas time. In the past, I can usually book a flight in early August for a decent price before they really sore. This year, not the case. When I fly, I usually book early figuring prices will just get higher as the travel date gets closer. Two cheapest flights I'm tracking are on Southwest and Frontier. Southwest has held steady, but Frontier prices are slowly creeping higher.

Any chance prices might go down a bit if I wait or should I just grab a ticket at the current price before it goes any higher?

If you book on Southwest, you can always rebook at the lower fare WITHOUT penalty. For us, booking Southwest is a lot like voting in Chicago - "Book early, book often".

Realistically, airfares do NOT generally drop much as you approach the holidays. In fact, they generally head up as you pass November 15th.

Ditto on rental cars.
