I've been wanting to visit Yellowstone National Park since I can remember. Where do you suggest would be a reasonable place to fly to from Maine? We prefer not to have more than a 3 hour drive from the airport to the park. I had seen some fares to Jackson Hole but they were very expensive. Now looking at Idaho Falls as a possible place.

I'm guessing you are suggesting to fly in commercial , I would suggest Billing or Bozeman. If you are flying in private I would suggest Cody (WYS).

Thank you - I will be checking out what is offered into Billings and Bozeman. Most of the flights I have seen to both of these places have been well over $600 pp rt. I was hoping we could do it for a little less.

Not sure its helps.... But your best fare will most likely be to SLC But its a 7-8 hour drive from there. The other cities Casper, Idaho Falls, are all going to be in the same price range as Bozeman/Billings.

So you need to weigh off time/cost ..

I did Yellowstone in the winter 10? years ago, it was totally different and something to be expercenced if you get that chance.

It's worth it to fly in to Jackson Hole.

Your other choices billings or Cody,

Agree that Jackson is worth it most of the time. You can enjoy a day or two in Grand Teton NP before heading up to Yellowstone.

Idaho Falls has a small airport that might give you some additional options, but I'd still personally prefer Jackson. The view as you get off the plane in Jackson is stunning!

Thank you all for your suggestions - we'll be looking into all those places except SLC as that is just too much of a drive.

The ONLY two airports that you are generally going to get a good deal are SLC and Boise. And the advantage of THOSE airports is that the rental car prices are also very competitive. You will GENERALLY ***NOT*** find good deals in the smaller airports.

I LUV the SWA prices to SLC and the drive up through Logan, UT / Bear Lake to WY Star Valley and on into Tetons. (The round trip home through ID Falls / Soda Springs (HOT Springs) is nice too.

Bozeman is the closest BUT the drive from Billings (Beartooth Highway - Map )

is NOT to be missed... BTW, the Tetons neither !!!

NE Yellowstone is my Favorite (next to Tetons), and YES, Winter is GOOD time to visit (but not do the Beartooth... It will close by Oct., usually earlier)

Look for specials on the Weds broadcast from Airlines. COD has been on UA more than a few times. But the rental car prices !!! (I will take my $10 / day from SLC and DEN)
