I'm a 20yr old college student. So this weekend I want to take a weekend escape to California. I'm ready to leave behind the heat here in AZ to be in the beach and take in the cooler temps and maybe do a hike. I am thinking about driving from Phoenix to Laguna/Hunnington Beach...roughly a 6 hour drive. Ill be staying at a fairly decent hotel. Is it wired to travel alone? How safe is it? Considering I'm a guy I don't think I'll have problems. But would like to hear your thoughts.
Should I just go for it or is traveling alone wrong?

Thanks!

Have a good trip.

Take a charged cell phone, (Do you have a place to stay there?)

You will be fine...

As a guy traveling in California especially if you have a working cellphone, I don't think you will have a problem traveling alone.

1st I don't think a 20yo and his cell phone would be to far apart @ anytime.

Cell is incase his car breaks down.

As soon as you're out of school and working your employer may expect you to travel alone. You're wise to get used to it now. I traveled for the Federal government all over SoCAl and Arizona including some pretty remote places. It's just part of life. Have a fun trip!

I'm sure you will be fine if your car is in good shape and you are cautious. Like don't pick up any hitch-hikers. But wouldn't you have more fun by bringing along a friend?

Take water and stick to the interstates across the desert and you'll be fine, cell phone or no cell phone.

Take a book to read over breakfast and dinner. Travel alone can be liberating.

There's absolutely nothing weird or intrinsically unsafe about traveling alone, whether you're a man or a woman. In the US especially, it's a piece of cake and people do it all the time.
