I've never paid a travel agent a penny, and that includes the big European vacation we booked last year.

And I am really glad we used a travel agent by the way - she did a good job of researching hotels based on our criteria. I couldn't have done it better myself, and I know this for a fact - I've tried! LOL with mixed results...

I got the impression that she was traveling for her business. When I was working, six times annually would be considered a lot unless you were in sales.

If you don't have enough BIS miles or segments to earn even the lowest tier of status with a carrier, you aren't a frequent flyer.

I used to book my flights with e-dreams.
Now I book directly with the airline company.
E-dream says "do not forget to call 48 hours before departure to confirm your return flight"
Last february I was on a Thai island and couldn't manage to reach per phone the E-dreams hotline.
So I asked a Thai travel agent to do the call for me. Didn't work either. He asked me then : what airline are you flying?
I told him the name of the company ("Royal Jordanian"), he simply watched the Royal Jordanian flightplan on their website and confirmed to me it hadn't been changed. Then I told him naively (to my utter shame): "but I thought it's me who had to confirm to the travel agent (not the airline) that I hadn't changed my mind about my return flight"...he looked at me with a puzzled look....I didn't tell him that's what exactly the stupid, unefficient e-dreams travelagent had told me back in Paris...
