Anyone had recently a good deal renting a car in Berlin? Any known deal/coupon/discount page? Any rent-a-car company doing promotion?
Your input will be greatly appreciated!

One German-based company that has the no surprises formula is "SunnyCars.de" or "dot.com." I believe all of their rates include the insurances down to zero, where you have no deductibles and walk away in case of an "event." They are not a company per se, but a broker that then vouchers you over to one of the major chains. I've always done better in Europe by pulling up an airport web site and finding out, via the links to airport services, who the non-chains are. They usually give better prices. Also, except for a few countries, an Amex card has some insurance coverage built-in to it, if used for the rental. If you do not take full insurance, the Europeans are bastards who will fine tooth the car for every last scratch at check-out. If you come back with a scratch, what determines what the cost of the scratch is? I did this in Lisbon once and the guy gave me an all-clear. If he hadn't, who wants to negotiate this kind of crap when trying to board a plane? Also, upon depositing a rental car in Europe, I always take date stamped photos of the vehicle until a few statement cycles have passed by.

Only once did I get a good deal from a major. I was staying in Faro PT, the Algarve, and was going to be renting a car. I walk down the street and see Europcar, usually ridiculously expensive, offer 3 days for 100 Euros, no deductible/walk away. I took it, instead of busing back to Faro airport to a rental counter.

PS - when I read the thread title, I thought this was a commentary on an actual company called that, as in Air Berlin.
