Hey--we just moved to CA and we're going to make some day trips next week. We're going to hit Disneyland one day and then the next we're going to visit Legoland. Any advice on favorite attractions for young kids (4 girls under 6) or tips on how to manuever the park successfully?

Fantasyland has the most attractions that your girls will probably like. Head for Peter Pan fairly early - the lines get a little long and there's no Fastpass. If your girls have seen the Disney classics, just head for the attraction for their favorites. At that age, they are going to love it. The submarine voyage just re-opened with a Finding Nemo theme and it's supposed to be pretty good.

The Haunted Mansion should be open with the Nightmare Before Christmas theme, but your girls might be a little scared. Not that being scared can't be fun, but you know whether or not your girls can handle it.

Definitely go on Pirates.

If you don't think you'll be coming back very often, you might take a minute and read LaughingPlace.com: Guide to FastPass at Disneyland (The #1 Site for Disney) (broken link). You can use Fastpass to get reservations (kind of ) for a ride and then do something else while waiting for your time to ride comes up. It's great for the out of town folks because we can make sure we get on the rides we want to go on, but if you're local and you think you'll be back two or three times a year it might be more fun to just let the girls explore.

You don't have to do a lot when you're there - there are so many little details that your girls will love that you shouldn't feel like you're not getting your money's worth if you don't pile up a high ride count. Just go and let the girls lead.

Thanks for the info. We've actually moved here from Florida so we've been to Disney World about 20 times and I was actually going to go straight for the Dumbo ride when we got there which is the longest wait at Disney World!! And my oldest has been talking about the Nemo ride for a month so we definitely have to Fastpass that ASAP!

Good, you know the ins and outs.

If you haven't been to Disneyland, you're going to notice that it is a much more compact park than Orlando. Expect some congested areas.

Going on the Nemo ride first is probably a good idea.

Legoland can easily be covered completely in a day. If you get there before the opening, parking is great. The driver's license ride is a kid favorite. We always try to go against the crowd. Parents can ride almost every ride with the kids, so it is lots of fun for everyone! We have only gone on off days (days when most kids are in school), so we don't usually have long waits. The roller coasters and the pedaling ride that is always shown in pictures across the lack all draw the bigger lines. Before you go, check the calendar to see if there are any groups like Mommy & Me going that day, so you can try to avoid the crowds. We usually get free or reduced ticket(s) thru AAA, a Lego club or a hotel brochure. Make sure to let your girls go to the store at the back of the park where they sell exclusive bricks, Lego flowers, etc. The dragon roller coaster is lots of fun! The firetruck race is fun, too. Actually, it is all really fun and not as tiring or expensive as the bigger amusement parks! Oh, don't forget your camera because they have different displays set up throughout for kids to have their pictures taken.

Don't forget to ride "Small World" at Disneyland three or four times when you're there.
You can thank me later. LOL.

J/K!!!!! If you can, avoid it at all costs! The music will be stuck in your head for something like a month!
