I'm debating a vacation to Europe. Considering a few different cities, but the three in my mind right now are Porto, Munich, and Barcelona.
I'm trying to find the cheapest way to fly to Europe from the US East Coast. I live in Atlanta, but if it's significantly cheaper to fly out of DC, NYC, or Florida, I'd consider doing it. Also trying to figure out which cities in Europe are cheapest to fly into. Thus far, seems like Paris and Madrid are the best possibilities, but I could definitely be missing others.
Anyone have any ideas here? Or anyone know any websites that might be good for determining this?
Tried Kayak and Priceline. Kayak gives a 'lowest fare' calendar, but doesn't seem to tell you anything about those fares, which is frustrating. On Priceline, I've thus far been able to find a few round-trip fares around $800, but curious to see if I can find anything cheaper than that.
Flights to Europe are still very expensive ( even now - off season), but i found the cheapest flights from N.Y.
My last flight was from Houston to N.Y. and then to Europe. I had enough miles for a free R/T to N.Y, otherwise the saving would be not significant.
On our most recent trip, we found that the cheapest fares were Aer Lingus into Dublin. One of the reasons for this is that taxes in Dublin were a lot cheaper than at some other airports (e.g London). Another airline to look at is Icelandair from NY or Boston and connecting through Keflavik.
Cost of flying fluctuates a lot depending on the time of year you are doing it. Same is true for hotels in your destination city. February/March will be a lot cheaper than July/August for example.

ATL..... then get on Delta's Wednesday bargain letter... I Hate flying Delta with a passion, (Coke products...ick) but.. They take me direct to Madrid or a hop into Barcelona.
Maybe you have a friend at Delta, they can get you a buddy pass. (Bring your own Pepsi )
Pick a travel website (one of them) like expedia, etc. Spend time looking at the options. It won't be quick, especially if you are unfamiliar with their organization. The prices seem to vary little between different websites so I don't bother with more than one. Avoid travelocity as you may find yourself buying travel insurance by accident.
Buy a secondhand sea kayak and start paddling. The only cheaper way would be to swim but me thinks the sharks would take care of you before you made it across the pond.

I would think, though, that flying Delta out of Atlanta to Europe would be pretty cheap.
IcelandAir and AerLingus out of Boston is resonable. SAS isn't too bad either.
Flights to Europe are ridiculous right now for some reason. In 2011 the prices ranged from $650-$900, and this year I've struggled to find anything for under $1000. I thought that maybe it was because of the Olympics and the Euro Cup, but prices haven't dropped even though those events are long past.
