In developed countries, what countries are the most eco friendly countries with transportation? Where many people will only walk or ride a bike. Or the cars are very eco friendly. Countries or certain cities?
The BeNeLux area should be high and I would think Japan also ranks highly given its compact geography, dense population and varied transit options.
Keep in mind that air quality is affected not just by vehicle emissions but also from factory emissions and weather patterns. San Francisco and the Bay Area is a great example of this. Despite its dense population and frequent traffic snarls it enjoys almost pristine air quality. The reason is that offshore breezes push the Bay Area's pollution inland and the "dirty" air settles in places like Sacramento.
