I hope I made it clear that you don't have to stay onsite to do any of the activities and there is no discount for being their guest. I did not investigate it, but I am pretty confident that there are other places that offer a dolphin swim so that may be a cheaper offer. Our group had a picnic one night at the dolphin cove and it is a nice area with a nice protected sandy beach and bathhouse.

As I said, we were there in March and the weather was fine for the rides and the pools but I was surprised that the ocean was not all that comfortable in temperature so we did not get to enjoy that part of the trip.

Just something to think about - they were just breaking ground on a new themed water park that was between Atlantis and the airport and we were told it was expected to be big competition for Atlantis. Hopefully, that will make it more affordable in the future.

I think I just saw that commercial but it says in small print $69.00 based on a family of 4. I am guessing that means 4x$69/night not $69/night for the whole family. Does anyone have a different interpretation?

You're right! From the fine print:

Rate listed is per person per night, quad occupancy for two adults and two children 7-11 years of age, for travel 1/2/13 through 6/19/13 in the Beach Tower Terrace standard room. Two night minimum stay required. Other rooms and dates available at higher rates. Add mandatory taxes, levies, fees, service charges and gratuities from $94 per night. New bookings only from 1/29/13 through 2/11/13. Subject to availability, change, and cancellation without notice. Not combinable with any other offer not listed at time of offer. Not applicable to groups.

If you don't mind staying outside Atlantis there is an all-inclusive right next door, Riu Palace that is reasonable but you will need to pay an entry fee to use the rides in Atlantis, depends on how many kids and how frequently you use the rides.

Try Tripadvisor for other opinions.
First of all, outside visitors might not get a day pass. From Atlantis website: Passes may be purchased by day visitors, but availability is limited – and may be closed – during periods of high resort occupancy.

There are different "entry fees" for non-guests, depending on what you want to do:

There are three levels of passes – the DIGS pass (DIGS Aquarium and predator lagoon). This runs $40 per person. The Beach Pass includes the DIGS Aquarium and beach for approximately $70 per person. The Ultimate Day Pass includes the aquapark, slides, pools, beach and aquarium. This does not include Dolphin Cay or the Cain pool plus any paid experience. A day pass can be purchased at Atlantis for $120 for adults/$80 for children (higher prices in the summer). There are blacked out dates and the passes are limited each day.

I got the impression that Atantis passes were part of some package deals with some nearby hotels. You would not necessarily contact Atlantis for those. While we were in port on a cruise, we walked the entire resort without a pass but were excluded from the aquarium and the water rides.

Yes. Comfort Suites and Harbourside come to mind.

Outside visitors can also go to the casino on Atlantis property for free without a pass. Another thing someone not staying onsite can do is buy something to eat, but bring a credit card, as they won't accept cash.
