I live in Miami (from NYC originally) and for me, personally I would go to NYC for vacation (I usually do). But that's to be expected, right? I mean, I see Miami EVERY single day. So getting away, even if its to my home town, is a nice escape every once in awhile. I am sure if you ask someone in NYC if they would rather stay in NYC or go to Miami for vacation, you will get SOME similar responses.
I dislike NYC, so I suppose if I must choose one, it would be Miami. Although Florida is not on my vacation wish list. There is no place on the survey for "No thanks. Neither one".
I guess it depends on how old you are, if you have a family or not, and what you like doing when you're on a vacation.
I've been to both places and prefer NYC by far. NY offers more variety as far as activities are concerned. And since I'm not a "sun and beach" person, that's not something I take into account when choosing a vacation destination.
If one just wants to relax in the sun, then Miami is the place. But if one wants a good variety stuff that they can do, NYC is the place.
