I just thought this would be a fun thread to start. If you could go on a three country trip similar to the movie Eat Pray Love what three countries would you visit and in what order. I would go to France (Paris) Italy(Rome) then Japan(Tokyo).

If a publisher is paying for a self-indulgent get-away, why limit oneself to three countries?

For those of us who excercise a little bit of discretion and selectivity about what movies we see, could somebody give us a quick synopsis of the plot outline?

Why do so many travelers believe that it is impossible to experience any of the world (or discover themselves) without going to the centers of cities at least as large as Paris? Or to countries with the maximum number of automobiles or flush toilets per capita?

The author who was a new divorcee had some big emotional problems and travelled to Italy (self-indulgent trip), India (spiritual), Indonesia (spiritual). She spent a year I think in these 3 countries.

Plum Village in France for Buddhism. Some place like Bali for relaxation and solitude. Italy for self-indulgence - food, wine, socializing.

Agree. I love France but the last place I want to visit is Paris. I prefer the medieval villages, etc.

Eat, pray, love. Hmm. Italy for eating (perhaps a small city or town in Umbria)--lots of great food, wine, scenery. SE Asia for praying--some Buddhist country like Laos or Thailand, perhaps Luang Prabang--somewhere with lots of temples and ones that accept foreigners. French Polynesia for love--one or several of the islands close to Tahiti--beautiful men, beautiful women, beautiful scenery, water.
