I think a few are still in operation but some have declined (or been closed outright) due to poor economy ( less discretionary $) and families preoccupied (kids more so) with 24/7 electronic / gaming mentality and mindset.

Most of Ohio State Resorts. are still there and are still in operations - 9 in total. In addition, there are six additional parks that offer summer cottages.
Ohio State Parks - Lodges & Conference Centers
Most of the family resorts have gone away as families are smaller and have a LOT of other options of places to go (Great Wolf Lodges, Disney World, etc.) Families can jump on a plane and head anywhere unlike the 60s when fares were prohibitive.
