Maybe what he means is that he is going to already be in Germany and wants to back pack around but can't spend more that $250 to get back to Germany?

If that is the case, I suggest a circle. Just start in Germany and travel around in a circle and end up back in Germany., Traveling how? Hitchhiking, I guess. It doesn't make a lot of sense to only have a budget for one short leg of a journey.

I never said I found airfare for 250 to anywhere in Europe. Please pay attention. The only airfare/transport stipulation is that I need to be ble to get back to Berlin (from where ever) with $250, which is completely realistic if I'm already in Europe, the middle East, parts of Africa, or I find some freak low airfare which isn't impossible. Don't worry about the airfare GETTING there, it's not part of the budget. Just toss me some ideas/experiences. I'm in the research mood.

Also, to the nickel and dimes poster: you don't need a lot of money to enjoy a destination. I've spent less on major trips and have always had a great time with many genuine experiences with locals and other travellers alike. I have seen many cool things that made me wonder "how did I even wind up in this location/situation?". That's how I know I am travelling effectively.

Oregonwoodsmoke, thanks. I never even really considered hitchhiking before, so that's something I will definitely look in to.

I would suggest exploring cities in Portugal (e.g. Lisbon). They are relatively cheap and very exciting!

Thanks. I've been to Lisbon and southern Portugal last year and it is fantastic! Also impressively cheap for Western Europe. Definitely worth thinking about Porto and the north this time around.
