Has anyone ever rented a week at a HGVC property from a timeshare owner rather than Hilton directly? Trying to get a week on Orlando for Christmas at their Parc Soleil location, and to get a two or three bedroom you apparently have to go through an owner. Are there any risks/downsides to renting from an owner... seems like it could be easy to get scammed.

I rented a Marriott time share (same thing as Hilton, really) from an owner but used a well known third party called redweek.com That website specializes in listing/renting time shares all over the world. There is a fee (maybe $15?) to book through them but you can get great steals on the rentals and the peace of mind of going through a known agent. The longer you wait to rent, the cheaper it gets as people who won't be using their timeshares get desperate and lower the price.

Yes, there is always the possibility of getting scammed. Take the usual precautions and then cross your fingers.

There will be lots of legitimate owners trying to rent out their week, so there is also the possibility of getting a decent place for a decent price. Not everyone is a scam artist.

I would start by checking the company or third party as Mel puts it. I will just add one thing, he did say, you will get great steals, not during Christmas week, at a Hilton Grand Vacation in Orlando. Hiltons are probably the most sought after time shares there are and Orlando at Christmas is very busy.

good luck and be careful!!!
