Default Air Travel: 2 of the things I've learned

Well, I've learned more than two, and some or all of you may know both of these. Maybe not.

I wear sandals when I go through airports. Mine fasten with Velcro. Very easy to slip off and back on. Black socks. You don't want to see my feet! They scare small children and animals.

I carry a sandwich size Zip-Lok bag in my pocket. When the time comes to go through the detector at the airport I place all my metal items in it and place it in the container. At the other end I just grab the full bag and stuff it in my pocket, then empty it later. Carry a couple of extras and make instant friends in line.

Any trip tips you want to share?

Well, I haven't flown since Summer '06--I wonder if anything I've done over the past 10 years even is possible any more.

But my main strategy is that I always do a carry-on backpack.
That's all I bring--no luggage. Nothing is checked.
The pack is small enough to fit under the seat in front of me if necessary.

I read that Zip-loc tip somewhere else, and plan to use it the next time I travel.
I think it is a really good idea.

Take an empty water bottle and fill it AFTER you go through security out of the drinking fountain, to make sure you stay hydrated (and don't pay $2.50 for a new bottle).

And as dorky as those around the neck passport/ticket holders are, they sure save time and hands during all the stops and checks.
