Every time I have a vacation scheduled, the universe arranges for me to truly, desperately NEED the vacation by the time it comes around. Everything will be smooth sailing and then as the vacation approaches my life gets extremely hectic and stressful. Work gets crazy, one of my dogs will have a health issue, I'll have a health issue, friends and family will need me more than usual, stuff that usually goes right will start going wrong, and on and on. Is this a common phenomenon or am I just lucky?

Never happens to me and we make 2-3 international trips every year.

Umm, if that really happened, you'd have a lot more to worry about than a cancelled vacation.

I assume you take vacation insurance? If not, you should. Might help you relax. Also, a glass of wine or two. . .

It is so hard to schedule time off that I get like it is gold bullion and freak a bit inside things will be ruined.

I was working 55 hours a week and saving up for coming here to Chile. Right before I left, my hours got cut to ... well 0. Company went through hard times and no one was working. I still went and supported/am supporting myself playing poker.

Another trip, I had purchased tickets to Rio de Janeiro. Had my trip set up, talked with my family in Brasil. Was ready to go, and 3 weeks before my trip I had a ton of issues all arise at the same time and was forced to cancel my trip.

Same thing happened with a trip to Vietnam.
