Burgler, are there any airlines you would recommend steering clear of for the travel between CR and Chile?

A hint about the protests that I received from a friend who lives in Santiago. The protests aren't violent, but look around you and when the women and children disappear from the crowd, it is time to get out of the area. That is the point during the protest that the local police are about to bring out the tear gas and disperse the crowd.

Seriously, the protests seem to be some sort of well understood social thing and no harm done. They are nothing like the race riots in the USA. Everyone gets together and does some shouting and then everybody goes home. It could be worse. In Argentina, everyone goes out into the streets and beats on a cooking pot with a spoon. It's quite noisy. No pot beating in Chile.

Honestly, there are not. The main airline to get you to Chile is going to be LAN. It's honestly an awesome airline. Avianca is another one, it's Colombian but there are a lot of flights to Santiago.

The service with LAN is great. I've flown Avianca a few times and never had a bad flight or poor service.

American Airlines makes a lot of flights to South America, AA is on my boycott list.

I've flown LAN a few times, great service. I avoid Copa in that region though.

ha, Copa bought out AeroRepublica.. I flew on that airline when it was in a transition period and it sucked big time.

I did a search from San Juan to Santiago for a random 2 weeks in June.

Avianca, Copa, LAN, AeroMexico were all pretty much the same price.

If timber says to steer clear of Copa, I would listen to him. LAN has good food and gives out free alcohol on the flight, even in coach. I cannot speak for AeroMexico because I have never flown on it. Avianca will be a nice flight, but I think I would still go with LAN.

Chile is probably the most civilized country in the world. Santiago is generally regarded as the safest capital in Latin America. I lived there for more than a year, and never had a discomforting experience with anybody.

COPA seems to cancel every flight that isn't full... for technical / mechanical issues. I know so many people stuck for an extra day or more in Panama City (not the worst thing... if you have the time), but no on a deadline.
