In the US, New Orleans is tops for me. But you can find wonderful food in dozens of cities. Houston has a wide variety of restaurants. Maybe that's why people in Houston eat out more than any other city. The only city I don't like for food is Las Vegas since a huge number of their restaurants are chains or copies.

I've traveled all over the world and had wonderful food almost everywhere including places that are not well known for food such as Argentina, South Africa, Morocco, Poland and Czech Republic. In fact, the primary reason we travel is for food adventures.

I agree. NY and London are exorbitantly expensive and Houston has everything they have.

San Francisco/Napa. The French Laundry is still on my list of places to go before I die.
French Laundry is to die for. I went there a few years ago and it was wonderful but I would never go back. It's now so expensive I don't think I could enjoy the experience.

I dunno, I like fish a lot. SoCal has a lot of those casual-fast grilled fish type places so I like the food here, can eat fish every day for cheap.

Interesting, I couldn't disagree more. Seriously, the exact opposite observation as you. Vegas has an incredible bar/grill scene in my experience, and almost none of those are chains. As far as dining out goes, can't think of a better city to be in in the US.

Same here! Traveling is one culinary adventure for me most of the time. Granted, I'm not always pleased by where I travel/what I eat, but it's a blast nonetheless!

Wow, there are so many to choose from: based on our travels I think I would rate them this way and not in that order necessarily:

1- the Pacific coast, particularly Seattle area and the mid Atlantic for seafood, my very favorite food.

2- San Francisco for diversity.

3-Spain particularly Madrid for diversity and really great Spanish food, particularly tapas.

4-Los Angeles for Mexican and Asian food.

5-Hong Kong for all around food. The best consistantly good meals we had were in Hong Kong.

I am not a lover of Cajun or bar be cue, but both are ok, so you see I don't include New Orleans or the south period in the favorites. We have only had a few meals in NYC: not terribly impressed compared to what be expected. Los Vegas is getting better all the time if you can afford the really upscale dining. Anyone sho thinks Vegas is all about chains, hasn't spent much time researching.

Depends on where in Italy. Much of the country has a diet high in fish and vegetables.
