And where was it?
Did you think it was worth it?
Was it the location or the amenities that made you reach deep in your pocket?

Of course this is all relative... In my 20's I didn't travel much except to see my brother in Northern California, and the occasional trip to a Las Vegas (Econolodge) and Tijuana. (day trip only!)

These days I travel more with my husband, (middle class income/we budget for travel) and try to watch the pennies as long as it's relatively safe, clean and the bed is reasonably comfy.

We'll splurge for special occasions and we know we'll be spending a little time in the room, ESPECIALLY if it has a double whirlpool tub!

Our most expensive room was in Paris. We paid 350 USD per night (we were there three nights).
Aside from being in Paris, the location was great on the Isle Saint Louis right near Notre Dame. The room wasn't fancy or large, but it was comfortable, with a window that opened up to a narrow street below which was charming, and had a great bathtub with lots of hot water.

Just thinking about this today and wondering how folks arrive at that "lets go for it" moment.

Cheers!

$85 CAD in Managua, Nicaragua at a Best Western across from the airport. I was not thrilled and hope that will remain the most I ever spend in my young adult life.

I think $380/USD night @ Niagara Falls Canada for Suite (Two years ago)

For just hotel room $250/USD night in London UK (2002)

Most of my hotel just in traveling seem to be in the $80-140/USD Range

But If i need to be someplace to see "something" I will spend the extra $'s to be in there for night or two.

I ashamed to say $400 for one night at the Hilton near the New Delhi airport. Never again.

$510 for one night at the Sheraton in Lagos, Nigeria. In the USA the most I probably have spent is $200 a night at Fairbanks, Alaska.

250 a night at a 5 star hotel in Bogotá. I don't have a clue why I paid that money, but I stayed at this hotel for a week before moving on and ate up a huge portion of my budget.

I was young and was inexperienced. By the end of my trip I only had enough money to stay at a hostal for 5 bucks a night and could only eat empanadas.

AYE

Were you trying to ease yourself in? That must have been one impressive hotel, I hope.

Actually, it was on the way out. It was the Hilton in Gurgaon and I had a relatively early flight out of DEL the next morning, so I wanted to be near the airport. I had been on a week and a half jaunt around India prior to staying there, and stayed at nicer places for quite a bit less in Agra and Jaipur.

$86 day for weeks at a time (per diem) at Embassy Suites in Lompoc, CA. I don't travel much and when I do I usually have a destination planned.
