Two different browsers, same flights, same dates, same airline website: there was a $75 difference in airfare. The browser with the cookie history for this site was higher. Are travel sites using browsing history to up-charge customers?

Some don't update realtime. Other less reputable travel websites use teaser fee's then when you try to book it - suddenly and mysterious the cheap seats are "sold out". I don't think it has anything to do with your browser history.
Don't book airfare with travel sites, that's been repeated here a multitude of times. Book them with the airlines website.

Yes. Very common. Any time you're searching for airfare, start a private browsing session or clear your cookies.

How do you do that with a longer trip where you're flying 2-3 airlines each way?

> Don't book airfare with travel sites

Not always good advice. These days- try multiple ways to book, take the cheapest.

It is not unusual for fares to change during the booking process. I've seen it move both ways, up and down.

Hmmmm. Well thanks, but I just tried this site for an upcoming trip and the cheapest fare it came up with is 261. I can make the trip on Southwest for 173.

Southwest is one of the only airlines it doesn't pickup, since they only publish airfares on their own site, and don't sell round trip tickets. There's several small Asian airlines that get left out too.

Can't rep you again, but that's 100% correct information. I believe there are a few European Airlines that also don't get included - perhaps RyanAir, EasyJet, Norwegian Air?

This site sometimes helps find those airlines that don't share information: Low Cost Airlines & more | WhichAirline.com

Its been my experience when shopping for airline tickets online that prices change very frequently by the minute in some cases..
