All right, I suppose I'll list'em out West-East-ish:

HI, CA, OR, WA, MT, CO, WY, AZ, NM, TX, NB, SD, MN, WI, IA, MI, MO, IL, MS, TN, AL, GA, FL, OH, NY, NJ, SC, VA, MD, NC +DC

The states that I have been to are primarily in the Middle/West/South. I haven't been to Alaska (want to) or a lot of those little Northeastern states like CT, NH, VT (want to).

I can live without North Dakota, Oklahoma, Arkansas or Kansas.

New York
Florida
Washington DC

And by bus some more, I travelled from NYC to DC, probably by the roads of Pennsylvania, New Jersey Delaware or something.

I have been to the US twice.

Default I've been to...

Actually spent time in:
  • Kentucky (former resident)
  • California (current resident)
  • Washington state
  • New Mexico
  • Texas
  • Oklahoma
  • Louisiana
  • Arkansas
  • Missouri
  • Mississippi
  • Alabama
  • Georgia
  • Florida
  • North Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia
  • Ohio
  • Indiana
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • West Virginia
  • Pennsylvania
  • Washington, D.C.

Have driven through only once without stopping for the night, or otherwise just stepped over the border, in:
  • Arizona
  • Nevada
  • Kansas

Have had air travel layovers in:
  • Utah
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota

So, 29 states and D.C. altogether. I absolutely count layovers, unlike some people.

Off topic, but outside of the U.S., I've only been to British Columbia, Canada. But I am temporarily moving to Europe; by the end of 2014, I will have definitely been to:
  • The Netherlands
  • Austria

And also intend to visit by the end of 2014:
  • United Kingdom (England)
  • France
  • Belgium
  • Germany

You're right. By bus from NYC to DC, you would've had to travel though New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland.

That's a lot of real estate. How long do you plan on being in the US?

Other than maybe Delaware, I don't think you can say you've seen what is truly representative of any of those states from a bus window on 95. Kind of like connecting through LHR and claiming to have seen England (which is only about 10% larger than Pennsylvania.)
