I was thinking about this, and realized I've visited quite a few. I started on my "modern" list, places I've been in the last twenty years or so, and then realized there were many places on the list that I visited long ago, before there was such a list. These places have an asterisk. But I also realized that there are way more places than I could ever have imagined, and this gets rather silly, so I began omitting places, mostly "historic center" kind of places, and some national parks. (Banks of the Seine in Paris? Give me a break! Venice, Florence, Rome.) My somewhat shortened list:

Alhambra, Granada, Spain
Vilnius, Lithuania
Nessebur, Bulgaria
Luang Prabang, Laos
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Salvador de Bahia, Brazil
*Dinosaur National Park, Canada
*Dubrovnik, Croatia
*Palace of Versailles, France
Saint Emilion, France
*Arles, France
*Acropolis, Athens, Greece
*Oracle of Delphi, Greece
Epidavros, Greece
Mycenae, Greece
*Villa d'Este, Tivoli, Rome
*Medina of Marrakesh, Morocco
Oporto, Portugal
Danube Delta, Romania
Ancient city of Ayuttaya, Thailand
*Stonehenge, England
Independence Hall, Philadelphia, USA
*Monticello, Virginia, USA

On my future wishlist:
Melaka and Georgetown in the Malaysian Straits of Malacca
City of Valletta, Malta
Angkor Wat (almost made it in February but got sick and missed it)
Timbuktu (but that one's unlikely)
Egyptian Pyramids
Easter Island

there's a number of US Nat'l Forest and National Park areas here in the Western USA have been signed into the Heritage Site program.

You'll see a small sign about that below the historical big signage when you enter the area.

Yellowstone, Olympic, Yosemite, Taos Pueblo, Chaco ... come to mind.

There's a bunch of sites in the Eastern USA, too. Includes the Statue of Liberty, and some of the historic sites of the founding of the USA.

I've been to about 40, maybe will see a few more in France and Turkey this summer. I don't really do bucket lists, but certain places such as the Pont du Gard, Acropolis, Salamanca just call to me, and other places, I find by accident, such as the ancient Hercules Tower in Coruña, Spain.

And if you're going to keep track of this kind of thing, UNESCO is certainly worthy criteria.

One of the coolest places I've *ever* been to was Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii.
