Looking at some of those sites makes it seem like everyone is trying to rip you off.
They are. We had to stop a taxi that was charging us 7X the normal rate. Finally agreed to take us for the correct price. I also heard lots of stories of women meeting up with men at the bars and asking for a drink. Then they get a $100 charge for that drink. This was 15 years ago, I hope things have changed but be careful.
Definitely check out some of the baths they have. Really nice and relaxing. The one I went to had a couple of large pools, a lap pool, and number of sauna/steam rooms.
- Just take Bus 200E to Kőbánya-Kispest and then switch to Metro Line M3 €1.70 (530HUF if I remember correctly). The buses are quite modern, just don't forget to buy a ticket.
- Train takes ~3h. They leave both from Keleti and Nyugati. Buses also take ~3h, but may be a bit cheaper. Bus from Budapest to Bratislava - Bratislava to Budapest by bus
If I were you, I'd stay over night. You are spending 6h on the train and you'll need some time to get to the centre. Bratislava is quite nice and easily worth more than an afternoon
- Visit the "ruin bars". Especially "Szimpla kert". They are great fun in the summer. Ruinpubs in Budapest
