Nice sentiment, but the reality is that if she lost weight, she would fit into the seat. Sad that her unwillingness to manage her weight to a healthy size will keep you both from fully enjoying life.
Actually what I was trying to say was that her hips are wide due to bone not being obese. Sorry if I inferred something otherwise.

Calling someone out on an airplane rarely ends well. In this case, discretion will solve the problem one way or another because the flight attendants are obligated to address it as a safety issue. Confronting the other passenger only escalates the situation, and puts you in a position to be escorted off the plane in handcuffs, no matter how right(eous) you are.

44" hips would fit into an 18" seat. I'm having a hard time that her hip structure is that wide on it's own.

I meant calling her out to the flight attendant, and not in a discrete way. Hit the call button and announce "this woman refuses to get up to allow us out to use the restroom." Then let the FA deal with it.

Then add in an increasingly rude/nasty/selfish public and I'd guess being a flight attendant ain't what it used to be in the old days (Pan Am era).

I grew up around the airlines where my dad worked for 30 years, (25 of them for United) and flying today is not even CLOSE to what it used to be. I remember white linen on the tray tables,REAL silverware,REAL glass in coach, crystal in 1st class and REAL food.

My last business flight on a major carrier out of Atlanta was grab a nasty bag lunch (greenish ham, dried out cheese on a stale roll) while going down the jetway to a cramped plane with no overhead stowage due to people bringing huge carry-ons.
I remember people having to dress appropriately for a flight which meant suits for the men and dresses for the women. Now? It's whatever they happen to toss on. Pajamas, shorts and t-shirts with flip flops, girls wearing beach wear that should only be worn on spring break etc. I'm waiting to see a guy in a speedo next.
One recent flight I was stuck next to someone who was wearing some kind of religious robe outfit and had obviously not showered or used deodorant for quite some time. Phew! Took a while to get that smell out of my sinus cavity.

Flying isn't what it once was, that's for certain... Given the news about Southwest posted above it seems at least one airline is trying.
Same thing happened to me, that was the worst flight I have ever been on. The guy was in the aisle seat, then I had an obese guy sitting in window seat while I was stuck in the middle. I have always chosen the seat online before hand after than flight.

I've had 3 flights on ERJ 145 and those were my favorite. Single seat with nobody beside you.

I've had a few wacky FA's, and one or two who really shouldn't have been in customer facing positions, but I've given out a LOT of "Above and Beyond" cards as well.
I think I love you LOL..thanks for "getting it"....so many people have an entitlement attitude. We try to accomodate them, but sometimes it is impossible. Then the fun begins.

US Chairmans.

I also give the FA's my magazines when I finish with them. Town & Country seems to be a favorite.

That really made me laugh. Care to find a source that backs up your assertion that they're "roomier"??

Why "announce"?? And how about something a little kinder like "this woman needs assistance to get up to allow them to get out and use the restroom."

Or do you just enjoy going through life humiliating people for sport?? She was likely getting upset because it was painful for her. That's hardly being a "cow".

Don't get too excited. Perhaps you've forgotten, but this is the same poster who thinks your galley area is a great place for people to walk around and kids to play.
