I'm heading to Malaysia and if I book some of the segments separately, I can save $800-1000 using Turkish Airlines (out of Boston). The reviews I see online are mixed, but this would be a 40% savings (a significant chunk for me).
Any opinions on them? The food/etc don't matter much to me, what I care about is cancellations and other things that will hinder me getting to my destination since my vacation time is limited.
One concern is that there only appears to be one Kuala Lumpur flight from Istanbul on that day, so if something happens, it may have me stuck in Istanbul a bit.
My daughter flew them back in Feb for a business trip to Istanbul and she absolutely raved about them, service was great, no delays or cancellations.
Of course nervous MOM here said can't your company put you on a US carrier...lol but she said they were great.
And if you do get stuck there are worse places than Istanbul to be stuck at...
I flew on TK about two years ago from Munich to Istanbul and back, plus two in-country segments. While I can't comment on the long haul experience, my flight segments went without incident.
The flights were on time. IST is a fairly easy airport to transit in (although the beer is expensive!). In flight service was not better or worse than any other major airline. The aircraft were modern and as comfortable as other airlines. The flight crew were friendly and professional without being overbearing.
All in all, I'd fly them again without hesitation.
I'd use them again. Better than a US carrier, but who isn't? Ataturk airport sort of sucks. No idea about cancellations or any of the things you seem to care about though.
Have a nice vacation and when you come back post your experience with Turkish Airline
